Background of the Study
Female politicians have been recognized as vital contributors to grassroots political mobilization in many regions, especially in Nigeria, where women's involvement in politics is a growing area of interest. In Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, the role of female politicians in mobilizing local communities for political participation and development has become increasingly significant (Abubakar & Ibrahim, 2024). Historically, women in Nigeria have faced various barriers in political participation, from patriarchal cultural norms to limited access to resources. However, women like those in Jos North have managed to break through these barriers, contributing to the political landscape by influencing local communities and advocating for women’s rights and social justice (Danjuma & Samuel, 2023). The increasing visibility of female politicians in Jos North can be attributed to the concerted efforts of female leaders to engage with grassroots communities and address local concerns, from poverty alleviation to improved access to education and healthcare (Eze & Nwankwo, 2025). Their role in grassroots political mobilization has been critical in fostering civic participation, increasing political awareness, and driving community-based policy changes. However, the challenges they face, such as cultural stereotypes, political instability, and the dominance of male political structures, continue to undermine their influence and limit the full realization of their potential in mobilizing grassroots support (Usman, 2024). This study seeks to examine the role of female politicians in Jos North, focusing on their impact on grassroots political mobilization and the challenges they face in this endeavor. By exploring these dynamics, the research will contribute to the broader understanding of women’s political empowerment at the local level and its effects on community development.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing number of female politicians in Jos North Local Government Area, they still face significant challenges in grassroots political mobilization. These challenges range from deeply entrenched patriarchal norms that hinder women’s political influence to limited access to funding and support for political campaigns (Saleh & Okon, 2024). While some women have successfully mobilized grassroots support to address local issues, their efforts are often overshadowed by male-dominated political structures. This results in political mobilization strategies that are less inclusive and fail to adequately reflect the needs of women and marginalized groups. The underrepresentation of women in leadership positions in Jos North, despite their involvement in grassroots political activities, calls for a closer examination of the strategies and challenges they encounter. This study, therefore, aims to assess the role of female politicians in grassroots political mobilization in Jos North, with the goal of identifying the barriers that limit their effectiveness and proposing solutions for empowering women in local political spheres.
